This SLP shares what she’s learned after working in the field for more than 20 years. Having hired plenty of SLPs over the course of her career, she shares wisdom about how to land your dream job after finishing grad school and completing a clinical fellowship. She offers tips for going on an interview, advice about talking up your accomplishments, and even outlines some of the things you shouldn’t do if you’re hoping to leave a positive impression.

Lead Speech-Language Pathologist at Cleveland Clinic Martin Health and Owner of SpeechRx

Kristin is the Lead Speech-Language Pathologist at Cleveland Clinic Martin Health in southeast Florida and the owner of a small private practice, SpeechRx. She has been practicing speech pathology for over 20 years with a focus on adult neuro-rehabilitation. 

She is passionate about advocacy and education for patients and their families. As such, Kristin is the facilitator of a thriving stroke support group serving individuals, families, and caregivers after discharge from the hospital.

She’s also a member of the Medical SLP Collective and the Inner Circle Leadership Program this year, as well as a volunteer with the Dysphagia Outreach Project. She assists in facilitating the Dysphagia Digest of Sarasota, a dysphagia support group. She’s interviewed many speech pathologists over the years, including new grads, CF applicants, and seasoned SLPs. 

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time at the beach, exercising, and watching college sports.

Today’s guest, Michele Rothstein, always knew that a school based SLP role was for her. Michelle has a passion for autistic students, and works as a “department of one” in an elementary school in Philadelphia. Michelle stresses the importance of caseload management, and speaks about adapting services to meet student needs. She explains how she balances treatment with data collection and record keeping requirements. She also talks about how she prepares parents for the ultimate end goal of their child’s exit from her SLP services, sometimes after years of working with them.
